Crustle takes no damage from Pokémon ex. Build one big Crustle, heal it, and cut down the few single-Prize attackers your opponent can send at it with Superb Scissors.

Difficulty: HardPrizes: Crustle gives 1; each Mega Kangaskhan ex gives 3

Your turn-2 goal

  • Mega Kangaskhan ex Active, drawing 2 with Run Errand.
  • 1–2 Dwebble on the Bench (Buddy-Buddy Poffin) and a Crustle from Hilda or Ascension.
  • Crustle heading to 3 Energy: Growing Grass Energy for [G], then Mist Energy and Spiky Energy.
  • Hero's Cape ready for Crustle and Jumbo Ice Cream in hand.

Your attackers

CrustleSuperb Scissors

120, ignores effects on their Active

Your main attack. KOs single-Prize attackers up to 120 HP, 140 if Spiky Energy already hit them.

CrustleMysterious Rock Inn

No damage from Pokémon ex attacks

Always on. Against ex-heavy decks, a healthy Crustle Active means they can't take Prizes.

Mega Kangaskhan exRapid-Fire Combo

200, +50 per heads

Finish a big ex Crustle can't reach: two heads is 300, plus any Spiky Energy counters already on it.

Mega Kangaskhan exRun Errand

Draw 2 while Active

Your draw engine early. Retreat it once Crustle is ready to wall.

Key decisions

  • Size Crustle to their best single-Prize hit. 150 base, +20 per Growing Grass Energy, +100 with Hero's Cape: Cape plus 2 Growing Grass and Mist is 290.
  • Get Crustle to 3 Energy fast. Jumbo Ice Cream only heals 80 from an Active with 3 or more Energy.
  • Bench as few Kangaskhan as possible. Two Mega Kangaskhan ex KOs are 6 Prizes; once Crustle walls, Kangaskhan is their only real target.
  • Against single-Prize decks, switch to denial. The wall does nothing there: Eri, Xerosic's Machinations and healing win the trade.
  • Boss's Orders the attacker before it's charged. The cards that can hurt Crustle are few; KO them on the Bench before they attack.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking Mysterious Rock Inn stops everything: damage counters from Abilities and from attack effects (like a Bench spread) still land.
  • Leaving Mist Energy off Crustle: it's what stops attack effects like Confusion or damage-counter placement on that Pokémon.
  • Forgetting Crustle is weak to Fire: any single-Prize [R] attacker deals double.
  • Playing Lumiose City early: searching with it ends your turn.

Versions

Standard

4 Mega Kangaskhan ex, 3-3 Crustle, 4 Mist, 4 Spiky, 4 Growing Grass, 2 Eri, Xerosic. Strongest against ex-heavy decks.

Psyduck

Adds Psyduck: Damp turns off Abilities that make a Pokémon KO itself. Aimed at Dusknoir decks.

Ogerpon tech

Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex takes no damage from attackers with an Ability; Demolish does 140 through everything. For Ability-based attackers.

Matchups

Crustle vs Dragapult

Dragapult ex, Fezandipiti ex and Meowth ex do no damage to Crustle. They can only win through 1-Prize attackers, Bench counters and your Mega Kangaskhan ex.

Their plan

  • Phantom Dive's 6 counters ignore Mysterious Rock Inn: a Dwebble benched under Risky Ruins (50 left) dies to them, and they soften Kangaskhan for a later KO.
  • Munkidori: Mind Bend does 60 and Confuses, and Adrena-Brain moves 3 counters a turn. It is their only steady damage on Crustle.
  • Crushing Hammer and Budew: Hammer strips Crustle's 3 Energy, and Itchy Pollen blocks Jumbo Ice Cream and Hero's Cape for a turn.
  • Boss's Orders on Kangaskhan (300 HP, 3 Prizes): Phantom Dive 200 plus 100 earlier damage from counters takes half your Prizes.

Your prize plan

  1. Wall up early. Crustle with Hero's Cape and Growing Grass Energy (270 or more) Active, Mist Energy on it so Mind Bend cannot Confuse it.
  2. KO Munkidori first. Superb Scissors (120) KOs Munkidori (110); Fighting Resistance does not touch Grass. Then Drakloak (90) and Dreepy (70) to stop their draw engine.
  3. Finish Dragapult ex with Kangaskhan. After one Superb Scissors (120), Rapid-Fire Combo's base 200 makes 320: KO on a Dragapult ex for 2 Prizes.
  4. Heal, don't race. Jumbo Ice Cream (80) with 3 Energy on Crustle and Pokémon Center Lady (60) undo Mind Bend and Adrena-Brain damage.

Superb Scissors vs Moltres (120)120 · KO
Superb Scissors vs Dudunsparce (140)120

Don't

  • Benching extra Kangaskhan once Crustle is set up: each one is a 3-Prize Boss's Orders target soaking Phantom Dive counters.
  • Putting Dwebble down under Risky Ruins when Phantom Dive can follow: 70 − 20 leaves 50, five counters away.
  • Letting Crustle drop under 3 Energy: Jumbo Ice Cream stops working. Re-attach every turn after a Crushing Hammer heads.

Key turn

  • The turn they run out of 1-Prize attackers: once both Munkidori and the Drakloak line are gone, their ex cannot touch Crustle and every Prize after that is yours.
  • Your first two turns: get Crustle evolved before Budew lands. Dwebble's Ascension finds Crustle with no Item needed.

If they play…

Moltres

1-Prize Fire attacker: Fighting Wings does 20 ×2 = 40 to Crustle, but 110 to Kangaskhan. Superb Scissors KOs it (120).

Team Rocket's Watchtower

Kangaskhan loses Run Errand. Replace it with your own Stadium and lean on Lillie's Determination and Team Rocket's Petrel.

Jamming Tower

Hero's Cape stops working: Crustle drops to 150 plus Growing Grass. Stack Growing Grass Energy and replace the Stadium.

Crustle vs Dhelmise

Their ex can't damage Crustle, so only Dhelmise matters. A Crustle with Hero's Cape survives Vengeful Anchor (170), KOs Dhelmise back with Spiky Energy's help, and heals before the second hit.

Their plan

  • Vengeful Anchor: 170 once 4 Hide 'n' Sneak Pokémon are in their discard. It KOs a Crustle at 150 or 170 HP, and two hits (340) KO Mega Kangaskhan ex for 3 Prizes.
  • Matcha Spin (4 counters on each of your Pokémon) and Spiritual End (quadruples counters on 2 Pokémon) are attack effects: Mist Energy stops both on its holder.
  • Their ex do nothing to Crustle. Mysterious Rock Inn stops damage from Lillie's Clefairy ex, Latias ex, Dudunsparce ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex.

Your prize plan

  1. Build one big Crustle. Hero's Cape + Growing Grass Energy + Mist Energy + Spiky Energy = 270 HP and the 3 Energy Jumbo Ice Cream needs.
  2. Spiky Energy turns 120 into a KO. When Dhelmise hits your Active Crustle it takes 2 counters, and Superb Scissors (120) finishes it at 140.
  3. Heal between hits. At 270, one Anchor leaves Crustle at 100. Jumbo Ice Cream heals 80; after a second hit (10 left) Bianca's Devotion heals it all.
  4. Count to seven KOs. Almost all their Pokémon give 1 Prize and Legacy Energy takes one away, so every Dhelmise you KO through a heal is progress.

Dhelmise (140), no Spiky Energy120
Banette (80) or Sinistcha (60)120 · KO
Dudunsparce (140)120

Don't

  • Leaving Mega Kangaskhan ex Active once Dhelmise is online. Two Vengeful Anchors (340) KO it for 3 Prizes. Switch it out after Run Errand.
  • A Crustle with fewer than 3 Energy. Jumbo Ice Cream only heals an Active with 3 or more, and without Mist, Matcha Spin counters stack on it.
  • Xerosic's Machinations early. They choose the discards and can dump Hide 'n' Sneak Pokémon toward the 4 that powers Vengeful Anchor. Eri only hits Items.

Key turn

  • The first 170 Vengeful Anchor. If your Active Crustle already has Hero's Cape and Spiky Energy, it survives at 100 HP and KOs Dhelmise back.
  • The heal right after. Jumbo Ice Cream or Bianca's Devotion puts Crustle out of one-hit range again: each heal costs them another Dhelmise.

If they play…

Jamming Tower

Hero's Cape stops working: Crustle drops to 150 plus 20 per Growing Grass Energy, inside 170 range. Replace the Stadium with yours.

Spiritomb

Spiritual End quadruples counters: Matcha Spin's 4 on a Benched Kangaskhan become 16. Mist Energy protects only the Pokémon holding it.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex

Blood Moon (240) can't damage Crustle. It only threatens Mega Kangaskhan ex, so keep Crustle Active.

Crustle vs Sharpedo Toxtricity

Their main attackers are ex and can't damage Crustle, and Mega Sharpedo ex is weak to Grass. Kill Munkidori, keep Kangaskhan safe, and two Sharpedo KOs give you the game.

Their plan

  • Their ex can't touch Crustle: Hungry Jaws (270-310), Irritated Outburst and Cruel Arrow do nothing to it, but Hungry Jaws does KO Mega Kangaskhan ex (300).
  • 1-Prize attackers: Toxtricity's Gentle Slap (100) and Yveltal's Dark Feather (110); Binding Mochi on a Poisoned attacker adds 40.
  • Adrena-Brain: Munkidori moves 3 counters onto Crustle. It's an Ability, so Mysterious Rock Inn doesn't stop it; two Munkidori make 60 a turn.
  • Team Rocket's Watchtower turns off Run Errand.

Your prize plan

  1. KO Munkidori first. Superb Scissors (120) KOs it (110); it's their only steady way to damage Crustle.
  2. Hero's Cape + Growing Grass Energy on the Active Crustle. At 270, even Gentle Slap + Mochi + two Adrena-Brain (200) doesn't KO it, and Jumbo Ice Cream heals 80.
  3. Mega Sharpedo ex is weak to Grass. Superb Scissors does 240, so two KO it (330) for 3 Prizes. Boss's Orders it back if it retreats (retreat 0).
  4. Two Sharpedo are 6 Prizes. Use Scissors on Yveltal (110), Toxel or Carvanha (70) only when no Sharpedo is reachable.

Superb Scissors + Rapid-Fire Combo440 · KO

Don't

  • Exposing Mega Kangaskhan ex: Hungry Jaws + Adrena-Brain (300) or + Binding Mochi (310) takes 3 Prizes. Draw with it early, then keep it out of reach.
  • Crustle under 3 Energy: Jumbo Ice Cream stops healing and Adrena-Brain damage piles up.
  • Leaving Toxtricity alive: every Sinister Surge powers a Sharpedo and adds counters for Adrena-Brain to move. Two Scissors, or one after Spiky Energy, KO it (140).

Key turn

  • When a Sharpedo goes Active: it can't hurt Crustle, so hit it with Superb Scissors (240). If they retreat it, Boss's Orders it back to finish.
  • Festival Grounds before their Mochi turn: Pokémon with Energy can't be Poisoned, so Binding Mochi adds nothing.

If they play…

Chi-Yu

Whirling Envy does 110 once it has 2+ counters (one Sinister Surge). Superb Scissors KOs it (90).

Wally's Compassion

Heals all damage from Mega Sharpedo ex but returns its Energy. Hit the same Sharpedo on back-to-back turns.

Janine's Secret Art

Poisons their Active without Pecharunt ex, turning on Binding Mochi. Festival Grounds still stops it.

Crustle vs N's Zoroark

Every N's Zoroark ex attack is an ex attack, so Mysterious Rock Inn walls it. Their real Prize route is your Mega Kangaskhan ex; keep it safe and Crustle wins the long game.

Their plan

  • Mega Kangaskhan ex is their target: Rampaging Thunder (250) + Black Belt's Training (40) + Binding Mochi (40) = 330, a 3-Prize KO on 300 HP.
  • Shred copied by Night Joker ignores effects on your Active and gets through Mysterious Rock Inn: 70, or 110 with Binding Mochi on a Poisoned Zoroark.
  • Yveltal isn't ex: Dark Feather 110, 150 with Binding Mochi while Poisoned. Munkidori's Adrena-Brain adds 3 damage counters a turn, since it's an Ability.
  • Team Rocket's Watchtower turns off Run Errand, so Kangaskhan stops drawing.

Your prize plan

  1. Build one big Crustle first: Hero's Cape + Growing Grass Energy puts it at 270, out of range of every non-ex attack they have.
  2. Superb Scissors does 240 to N's Zoroark ex (Weakness): two hits KO it, and the damaged Zoroark can't hurt Crustle back.
  3. Clean up the 1-Prize Pokémon: Munkidori and Yveltal (110) and N's Zorua (70) all fall to one Superb Scissors.
  4. Prize route: two Zoroark ex (4 Prizes) + Munkidori + Zorua or Yveltal. Heal Crustle with Jumbo Ice Cream (80) between hits.

Superb Scissors240
Superb Scissors, second hit240 · KO
Rapid-Fire Combo (no heads)200
Rapid-Fire Combo (2 heads)300 · KO

Don't

  • Leaving Mega Kangaskhan ex Active or Benched within reach of Boss's Orders once Crustle is ready: it's their only 3-Prize target.
  • A Crustle without Growing Grass Energy or Hero's Cape at 150 HP: a Poisoned Yveltal with Binding Mochi does exactly 150.
  • Wasting turns on N's Zekrom (130): Superb Scissors does 120 and doesn't KO it.

Key turn

  • The first turn Crustle sits Active with 3 Energy and Hero's Cape: from there, only Shred, Yveltal and Ability counters can touch it.
  • Play Festival Grounds when they set up Binding Mochi: their Pokémon with Energy can't be Poisoned, so Mochi adds nothing.

If they play…

Punk Helmet

Each Superb Scissors into a Zoroark ex wearing it puts 4 damage counters on Crustle. Plan a Jumbo Ice Cream every two hits.

N's Darmanitan

Attacking itself, Back Draft does 30 per Basic Energy in your discard, doubled by Crustle's Fire Weakness. Don't discard Basic Energy carelessly.

Xerosic's Machinations

Cuts your hand to 3. Keep Jumbo Ice Cream and Boss's Orders ahead of extra Energy.

Crustle vs Dragapult Blaziken

Their ex can't damage Crustle, so the game is Chi-Yu, Munkidori and Phantom Dive's Bench counters against your heals. KO the 1-Prize attackers on sight and never hand them Mega Kangaskhan ex for 3 Prizes.

Their plan

  • Chi-Yu: Ground Melter does 120 with a Stadium in play, doubled by Crustle's Fire Weakness to 240. That KOs a Crustle without Hero's Cape.
  • Phantom Dive and Smolder-sault (200) can't damage Crustle, but they hit Mega Kangaskhan ex (300), and Phantom Dive puts 6 counters on your Bench.
  • Munkidori: Adrena-Brain moves 3 counters a turn onto Crustle. It is an Ability: Mysterious Rock Inn and Mist Energy don't stop it.
  • Team Rocket's Watchtower turns off Run Errand (Kangaskhan is Colorless), and Budew's Itchy Pollen blocks Jumbo Ice Cream and Hero's Cape for a turn.

Your prize plan

  1. Draw early, then hide Kangaskhan. Use Run Errand while you set up, then Switch it out: Phantom Dive plus Bench counters takes 3 Prizes fast.
  2. Wall with a Cape Crustle. Hero's Cape + Growing Grass Energy + Mist Energy = 270 HP: Chi-Yu's 240 doesn't KO it, and Mist stops Mind Bend's Confusion.
  3. KO the 1-Prize attackers first. Superb Scissors (120) KOs Munkidori and Chi-Yu (110), Combusken (100) and Drakloak (90). Boss's Orders Munkidori before it gets Darkness Energy.
  4. Take the rest from the Bench. Dreepy (70) and Drakloak are easy Boss's Orders KOs; Dragapult ex and Blaziken ex (320) take three Scissors each, so leave them for last.

Superb Scissors (120) against their Active

Munkidori or Chi-Yu (110)120 · KO
Combusken (100)120 · KO
Drakloak (90)120 · KO
Dragapult ex or Blaziken ex (320)120; needs 3 attacks

Don't

  • Playing your own Stadium when Chi-Yu can attack. Ground Melter needs one in play for 120 (240 to Crustle), then discards it.
  • Benching Mega Kangaskhan ex. Phantom Dive's 6 counters, then Boss's Orders and another Phantom Dive, is 3 Prizes.
  • Benching Dwebble into Risky Ruins. It enters at 50 HP and 5 of Phantom Dive's 6 counters KO it.

Key turn

  • The turn Chi-Yu hits their Bench: Boss's Orders it and KO it with Superb Scissors before a Stadium and its Energy line up.
  • Their first Phantom Dive: by then Kangaskhan should be off the Active Spot and your Benched Crustle carrying Mist Energy, so the 6 counters find little.

If they play…

Lillie's Clefairy ex

It's an ex: Full Moon Rondo can't damage Crustle, and Fairy Zone does nothing to your non-Dragon deck. Only Kangaskhan is at risk.

Jamming Tower

Hero's Cape and Handheld Fan stop working, so Crustle falls back inside Chi-Yu's 240. Ground Melter also uses Jamming Tower for its +60.
